We Are All Safer Now,

thanks to the quick thinking of health and safety officials, for 19 years a deadly barber's shop pole stood outside the barbers shop of Rob Grice, but at last official from Wigan council said it was their duty to remove the freestanding red-and-white sign in case pedestrians tripped over it, we are saved, we are safe! but shop owner Rob Grice, 38, said the move was unjustified, ‘Nobody has tripped over the pole in the 19 years I’ve owned the shop,’ he said, ‘There are bins and lampposts along the street but they are not considered safety hazards, the pole let our customers know when we were open and now it has been taken away, last night town hall chiefs defended their decision to remove the pole, 'objects like these are not as stable as fixed street signs and we are being encouraged by Government to be much more proactive over things like this, the sign was noticed by inspectors, the shop is in a narrow street, it was an accident waiting to happen' the good people of Wigan can sleep safe in their beds tonight knowing they will not fall over a pole!
