I Know That Non-Native Species Can Cause Havoc In The UK,

just look at the effect the grey squirrel has had on it's red counterpart in the UK, but one specie I found difficult to see how it survived is the parakeet, in Beckenham where I used to live there are a number of public parks just a short distance from each other, it is in these that a number, 100+ have made their homes, what is strange for me is how these tropical birds survive our cold winters, I was surprised at how many sites in the UK have theses ring necked parakeets, also on the increase are the so called 'electric' ants, a type of fire ant which are drawn to electrical circuits and super wasps - twice the size of normal ones - nest in hedges and shrubs and can be a risk to children, Paul Bates, of pest control firm Cleankill, warned of the new threats, adding: "We expect a rise in calls." so look out this summer, our green and pleasant land may have a few surprises for us this year.
