I Have Always Believed That Where One Local UK Council Goes Others Will Follow,

so in a move that will hit ultimately every home owner in Great Britain, bosses at Labour-run Islington council have ordered out their bin snoopers who will hand out fines if householders flout the tough new rules in an initiative which comes months after the Government pledged to scrap bin fines, how much? just £110 the figure is £30 more than the penalty handed out to shoplifters,

from February next year, all 190,000 residents in the north London borough will have to follow the rules which will make it compulsory to recycle, if council spies catch people putting plastic wrappers in the same bins as cans, or put their food waste in the newspaper box, they can dish out a fine, local Government Secretary Eric Pickles said: ‘the best way to encourage people to recycle is not to punish families with bin taxes and bin fines, but to encourage and reward them for going green, it’s time to rein in the bin bullies and work with local people to build greener and cleaner communities,’ go tell that to Islington Council!

I have of course said it many times before, other than in less developed countries where the cost of land, transport and labour are less does recycling make sense, and at £110 per fine, it is not going to take long before families start having a day a month in the country for a picnic and then leaving their rubbish there, great idea for a day out if you do not believe that recycling works and your bins are being emptied only once every two weeks, I can imagine the check list before the trip, 'kids, sandwiches, dog, Grannie, rubbish, all there? lets go!'
