'We Told You So!'

was I guess what many residents of Brooke House in Basildon were thinking,

when council officials went to visit them after complaints were made about the lifts continually breaking down, to show that there was not a problem the councillors decided to go to the top floor using one of the lifts, but in a cruel, some would say comical twist of fate, the 5 officials got stuck between floors a couple of floors from the top, after some time the fire brigade were finally called to help the hapless travellers, but the farce deepened when the lift suddenly sprang back into life, carrying the delegation down to the ground floor and then back up to the 12th floor,

at this point the doors opened, allowing the five council officials and an Essex Fire Service safety officer to scramble out after 30-minutes of drama, the group not surprisingly took to the stairs to complete their trip to see residents as part of a community safety event, a spokesman commented ‘fortunately, what goes up must come down, the problem was quickly resolved and did not disrupt the main event', you really could not make this up, but I guess the repair and servicing of the lifts in Brooke House will be seen to a bit quicker now!
