There Did Not Seem As If There Was Much That We Found Interesting, Amusing Or Just Plain Weird,

in the papers today, so straight on with today's post,

we decided to have a bar-b-q for our evening meal on Saturday, so we needed some charcoal, but first Diana dropped a dress off to be altered,

we then called in to one of the many general stores that are all over Pattaya,

first some charcoal, then a grill as the one we had was a bit rusty, 82 baht and we were ready to go,

Diana took charge of getting the barbie going,

so I wandered off and took a few snaps of the insectivorous plants that we are growing, the new pitcher is growing well as it is now the height of the existing ones, so by the time the pitcher forms it should be a bit taller than them,

the Venus fly trap I guess is growing the best, with now 10 or 12 traps, but to be fair all 4 of the plants we have are growing remarkably well,

the monkey cup I seem to remember had 6 cups the last time I took a photo, so it now has 7,

I am not sure what this type is called but again it seems to be bigger than the last time I took a close look at it,

out of interest I water them once a day with water that has gone through our reverse osmosis water purifier, I had read that some of these types of plants do not like tap water especially if it contains calcium, also as we eat fruit pretty much most days I put a little off cut of what ever we have on the soil near the plants, this encourages fruit flies and other insects, but this does have a knock on effect,

the flies encourage other life to the pot as well like this spider in the centre of the picture, I also noticed a couple of days ago 2 lizards duking it out on the wall beside the pot so I guess they are attracted to the flies as well,

 back to the barbie,

we or I should say Diana used paper to get the charcoal going, but with not much success, so she tried using wooden skewers,

which made all of the difference,

soon the wooden embers were glowing as was the charcoal,

so first on some garlic bread and some ribs Diana had marinated,

whilst that was coking we had a salad, 'Cheers!',

Diana had prepared some chicken and pork on skewers as well, so we ate over the course of the evening,

by now it was late so we made our way inside and found the frog waiting for us,

he seemed a lot smaller than the last one so it must be one of this years, during the day we watched a program about American buildings which we both found interesting, each building or monument taking about 10-15 minuets each, one building, the Empire State was a history show in itself, but one fact about it that I mentioned to Diana was left out,

it survived a plane crash, in 1945 a military plane in thick fog crashed into the side of the building, the B-25 Mitchell bomber, with two pilots and one passenger aboard had just previously narrowly missed the Chrysler Building in midtown, it swerved to avoid the building but the move sent it straight into the north side of the Empire State Building, near the 79th floor, luckily since it was a Saturday, fewer workers than normal were in the building, but still 11 people in the building were killed, though its structural integrity was not affected, the crash did cause nearly $1 million in damages,

after our bar-b-q we watched Hitler: The Rise of Evil, a strange choice of subject matter but it was a tour de force for lead actor Robert Carlyle, we share the same birthday so that should be good for one of us, but back to the film, the movie describes the life of Adolf Hitler from childhood to manhood, and how he became so powerful, the chilling thing was that at least in the film it all looked so easy for him,

to round the evening off one more from Silent Witness, series 4, Gone Tomorrow, it looks like pilot error lead to a fatal helicopter crash but were other factors involved? then for us off to bed.
