I Think We All Know What Rubber Bands Are,

and that they are normally round,

so it came as a surprise to find that there were not square but cubed rubber bands for sale, Tokyo and Milan-based design firm Nendo have designed the new band, I say new because natural rubber bands have been around since the 1600s and they were patented (and formally institutionalised) in England in 1845,

so a cubed design is a totally new shape for them, Oki Sato, the lead designer explains, “the geometrical shapes make the bands easy to find in a drawer and easy to pick up,” also as they are quite expensive they would be sure to be used again, they are priced at 1,080 yen for a pack of three, (at today's rate £6.27, $10.10), I am still trying to work out if you could use them to fire a paper missile at a co-worker like normal rubber bands.
