Accordion Players Of New York,

and beyond may soon have to travel further afield,

to have their precious instruments repaired, at the age of 88 Alex Carozza has been repairing and building accordions in New York City Since the 1960s, now, at the age of 88, he is considering retiring, he’s reportedly the only person left in the city still repairing these complicated instruments,

in a cramped studio with his 93-year-old assistant, they have been working together for over 60 years, since 1949, if you have time and want to see a charming interview with Alex grab a cup of coffee sit back and enjoy! a true Sultan of the Squeezebox,

Update, I have just read in the The New York Times that in January Alex closed up shop, but has not retired, due to rising rents he has now moved to an office building on a block of West 54th Street, I am sure we all wish him and his partner the best of health and every success at his new location.
